Gibraltar offers free healthcare to all residents through the Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA). Whether you're moving to Gibraltar or already living here, understanding how the healthcare system works is essential.
## Overview of Gibraltar Healthcare
The GHA provides comprehensive healthcare services including:
- Primary care (GP services)
- Hospital care at St Bernard's Hospital
- Emergency services
- Specialist consultations

Healthcare is funded through social insurance contributions and general taxation.
## Who Is Eligible?
You're entitled to free GHA healthcare if you are:

With GHA registration, prescriptions are heavily subsidised. Take your prescription to any local pharmacy. Some common medications require small co-payments.
## Dental Care
Basic dental care is available through GHA for children and emergencies. Most adults use private dental clinics.
## What's Not Covered
Some services require private payment or insurance:
- Cosmetic procedures
- Most adult dental care
- Some specialist treatments abroad
- Private hospital rooms
## Cross-Border Healthcare
If you need specialist treatment not available in Gibraltar, GHA can refer you to hospitals in Spain or the UK. The Sponsored Patients Scheme covers approved treatments abroad.
